Q: What is PEPY’s mission?
A: PEPY’s mission is two-fold 1) to support educational projects in developing areas with an emphasis on the relationship between the environment and our health 2) to encourage adventure travel which emphasizes social action, responsibility, and accountability

Q: What projects does PEPY currently support?
A: PEPY supports a variety of education projects across the Kingdom of Cambodia. One project is the school project and the second PEPY school will open in early 2007. PEPY’s Bike-to-School Program provides bicycles to students graduating from rural elementary schools who have high attendance ratings and long distances to cover to reach secondary school. PEPY’s tours also support CCF Orphanage in Phnom Penh, Sangkheum Center in Siem Reap, and other projects in line with the PEPY mission.

Q: What types of tours does PEPY offer and how long are they?
A: PEPY offers volunteer tours, typically lasting 7-8 days, with half of the time spent volunteering with PEPY’s projects the other half touring Cambodia’s many sights and historic areas. PEPY also offers cycling tours which range from 1-4 weeks and all also incorporate both volunteer and touring portions.

A: PEPY’s cycle tours welcome 6-15 guests on each adventure. The volunteer tours typically have 10-30 participants depending on the tour.

Q: What kind of people go on a PEPY Tour?
A: We have had volunteers from ages 8-70 on our tours. Participants come from all over the world. Our first tour had participants from 13 countries! About half of our participants are English speaking expatriates living in Asia, and the rest come from everywhere! Our volunteer trips are open to volunteers of all ages.

A: All tour prices incorporate both a trip fee and a tax-deductible (in the USA) minimum donation amount. Donations support the PEPY projects participants visit while on the tour. Q: How much bike experience is needed?
A: No biking experience is needed for our volunteer trips (as they typically do not involve any cycling). For our cycle trips, we suggest that participants be sure to get in good physical shape and be prepared to cycle 50+ kilometers per day for our one week trips, and sometimes 100+ kilometers per day for our three-four week trips. The climate is very hot and the roads are unpaved, so those in weak physical condition or with health problems should consider our volunteer trips in place of our cycle trips.

Q: Does every tour travel to the same areas?
A: No. Most tours are unique in their mission as well as their itinerary. Some visit PEPY schools, others involve volunteer time at orphanages PEPY supports, and cycle trips typically involve visits to other rural schools. Q: What kind of accommodation do you offer?
A: In the cities we stay at excellent hotels and guesthouses, and seek out those supporting sustainable tourism. On our bike rides, the rural areas typically do not offer much choice in terms of accommodation. If your cycle trip is visiting a very rural area with sub-standard hotels, you will be informed. All volunteer trips stay at respected hotels and guesthouses with clean rooms and friendly staff .

Q: What kinds of activities do participants engage in to support PEPY’s mission?
A: The volunteer portion of each trip varies. Often times school visits involve teaching PEPY lessons with a translator, games and activities with students, and physical work such as sanding desks and building walkways. Participants can choose what areas they would like to volunteer in. Other trips have a specific volunteer mission, such as building a rainwater collection unit at a rural school or building houses at an orphanage.

A: You can make a tax-deductible donation by US check to PEPY at 105 Schrade Rd, Briarcliff Manor, NY, 10510, or you can donate online (also tax deductible for US tax payers) at www.networkforgood.com or through the “Donations” tab on our webpage. Please write the name of your friend in the memo line of the check or in the appropriate space on the online form.
